To Our Team, On the Eve of Districts
COPLEY CROSS COUNTRY
On the eve of Districts, I want you to know this: I believe in our team.
Why?
Because I've seen athletes go from the back of the team to the front, teammates become family, and ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things. I've seen one breakthrough race change an athlete's trajectory and I've seen competitors discover they were capable of far more than they imagined.
Most of all, I've seen what happens when individuals stop asking, "What can I do?" and start believing in what we can accomplish.
I can't make those moments happen tomorrow. No coach can. But they are possible. I've seen them happen, and there is no reason they can't happen for us.
First, we have to believe in the work we've put in, in the teammates beside us, and in what we're capable of becoming.
But belief doesn't mean the race won't get hard. Mental endurance is what happens when it does.
There will be a moment tomorrow when your legs are tired, your breathing is heavy, and your mind starts looking for a way out. That moment isn't a sign that something is wrong. It's the moment you've been preparing for all season.
Being tired is information.
It doesn't make the decision.
You do.
Notice what you're feeling. Choose your response. Commit to the next move. Then repeat.
You don't have to feel strong to make a strong physical choice. Sometimes the greatest breakthroughs happen when you refuse to let discomfort decide what you're capable of.
We've spent months putting hay in the barn. Tomorrow is not about finding something new; it's about trusting what we've built.
We don't need perfect races. We need courageous ones. We don't need to know exactly how it will happen. We need to believe it can and fight together to make it happen.
Tomorrow, someone will surprise themselves. Someone will break through. Someone will discover a new level of strength.
Why not you?
Why not us?
Why not tomorrow?
I believe in our team.
Now it's your turn.
